Somnath is a general surgeon trained in New Zealand. He completed his undergraduate degree in India before moving to the UK, where he finished basic surgical training and earned a doctorate in pelvic floor dysfunction.

After that, Somnath moved to New Zealand to pursue general surgical training and obtained a FRACS in 2020. Following his training, he relocated with his family to Palmerston North, where he began working as a general surgeon.

Subsequently, he took time off to complete a Head and Neck fellowship in North Shore, Auckland, before returning to Palmerston North where he currently practices as a full-time general, thyroid and parathyroid surgeon.

Somnath performs a wide range of open and laparoscopic general surgeries and has a special interest in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and anorectal physiology.
